FAQs:

Q: How long does it take to make a jump rope?

A: Approximately 5 minutes.

Q: What kind of yarn do I use & where can I get it?

A: Acrylic worsted weight yarn works best. You can buy yarn at any craft store or ask your community to donate the yarn. Try estate/garage sales.

Q: How much yarn do you need to make a jump rope?

A: Roughly ¼ pound or 4 oz. for a kid size rope & 1/3 pound or 5.3 oz. for an adult size rope.

Q: What is the fundraising potential for the jump rope winders?

A: In November of 2001, our Waldorf School introduced jump rope making as an activity for our Winter Fair. The response has been tremendous and each year we have doubled the number of ropes and money made! In 2004, we made 300 ropes in one day with three winders and charged $3.50 a rope, grossing over $1000. Our biggest challenge was keeping up with the line of children that extended out the door! The children enjoy the activity so much many of them have made a jump rope each year, raving how much they love them and how they are so well made.

If you make on average 10 ropes/hour & charge $10.00 per rope- you can earn $100./hour. At a festival or event that runs 10am to 4pm (6 hours) you have the potential to make 60 jump ropes & gross $600. PER WINDER.

You can make back your investment in the 1st half of the day!

Other variables should be considered; price charged for the jump ropes depending on your local economy, cost of booth at festival or event, the cost of the yarn (varies from $1.25/pound=.32 cents per rope to $5/pound=$1.25 per rope or free if donated!)

Q: What if I have a problem with the winder?
